It’s widely known that obesity and lack of physical activity are harmful for the body’s health. A recent study specifies this: According to scientific research, an unhealthy weight in combination with insufficient exercise increases the risk for a certain subtype of colorectal cancer.
Obesity and physical inactivity – Risk factors for colorectal cancer
The study’s researchers examined data of more than 45,000 men and 100,000 women to find out if there is a link between body mass index (BMI) or exercise activity and colorectal cancer risk. For that purpose, they used a biomarker named CTNNB1 – a molecule implicated in cancer and obesity. The result: The researchers could prove that increasing physical activity level reduces the risk for a certain molecular subtype of colorectal cancer.
Active lifestyle for improved personal health
The study provides additional evidence for the causal association between obesity, a physically inactive lifestyle and the risk for certain types of colorectal cancer. But that’s not the only reason why everybody should include more physical exercises in daily routine. Your circulatory system, heart, immune system, capacity to concentrate and general well-being also enormously benefit from sports.
